Operation Kill Gilmore

Here’s our story of Operation Kill Gilmore:

Peyton was diagnosed with non-germinomatous germ cell tumor (NGGCT) December 2021 at the age of 19. The tumor sized in comparison to a golf-ball and Peyton’s first instinct was to name the tumor Gilmore, after the movie - Happy Gilmore. He is currently receiving treatment with Levine Children’s Hospital Cancer & Blood Disorders Clinic in hopes to defeat Gilmore!

What defines Peyton is not his cancer, but the heart he carries with him. Before, during, and after treatment, Peyton is known for his large QC logo tattoo, dad jokes and puns, outstanding cooking skills, love for music and podcasts, and his incredible perseverance.

Two months before diagnosis, Peyton and I got married in Waxhaw and started our “forever”. While this wasn’t the plan for a first year of marriage, we are grateful for God’s timing and His strength to carry us through, as one.

Our first home as newlyweds was a perfect fit for us, but our one window A/C couldn’t support every room, which created a barrier to recovery from treatment. Thankfully, our social worker at LCH reached out The Noah Strong Foundation and shortly after, they provided us with an additional unit! What a blessing (and a cool way) to support us on our journey! We are so blessed to have met so many superheroes along the way and we hope one day, we can do the same.

Best,
Sarah Wallace
